Rules and Regulations

Each year, the Country Music Alberta Association honours outstanding contributions to Alberta’s country music scene with awards in 28 categories. Recognizing artists, musicians, industry professionals, and radio, these awards celebrate the diverse talents driving the growth of country music in Alberta. The following outlines the official criteria, eligibility, and selection process for the 15th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards. These guidelines are established and maintained by the Country Music Alberta Awards and Verification Committee and approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors. As the industry evolves, so too will the Awards Program, reflecting the innovation and diversity of the Community it represents.

ELIGIBILITY

 

The award eligibility period is a thirteen (13) month window, however, a body of work may only be submitted for consideration once and may not be used to apply in subsequent years if unsuccessful.

 

Eligibility Period for the 15th Annual Country Music Alberta Awards is: September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The first available date that the body of work is available to the public, whether on Digital Streaming Providers (DSPs) or on radio, is considered the release date.  

 

Current premium streaming platforms are: Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, YouTube

 

NOTE

All Members are bound by the Country Music Alberta Awards Terms and Conditions. All final decisions on all category eligibility is at the sole discretion of the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors.

Horizon Female Artist of the Year


This award is presented to an individual female artist in the Alberta country music industry displaying the greatest achievements within the current eligibility period. Voters should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to success at radio, streaming numbers, sales of pre-recorded music, live concert shows and vocal performances.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The female artist must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Artist must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have released a single within the current eligibility period

  • Have a music catalogue that has obtained a minimum of 10,000 streams on a single premium streaming service within the eligibility period

  • Have performed live at least five (5) times during the eligibility period

  • Have not been nominated for or won a JUNO Award or any of the following CCMA awards: Single of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Fans’ Choice, Entertainer of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year

Selection Process

The Horizon Female Artist of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Artists or their teams must submit a package for consideration including screenshots demonstrating that the artist has met all eligibility criteria listed above. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot. Artists or their teams must also submit an Artist Reflection.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. A professional panel of jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the contenders. The five (5) nominees who will appear on the Third Ballot will be determined by the following formula: 

  • 51% based on jury vote

  • 49% based on membership vote

In the case of a tie, more than five (5) nominees may proceed. 

STEP FOUR (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. A professional panel of jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the nominees. From the five (5) nominees, the winner will be determined by the following formula:

  • 51% based on jury vote

  • 49% based on membership vote


One winner will be announced. In the event of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Country Music Alberta Award™

Horizon Male Artist of the Year


This award is presented to an individual male artist in the Alberta country music industry displaying the greatest achievements within the current eligibility period. Voters should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to success at radio, streaming numbers, sales of pre-recorded music, live concert shows and vocal performances.

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The male artist must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Artist must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have released a single within the current eligibility period

  • Have a music catalogue that has obtained a minimum of 10,000 streams on a single premium streaming service within the eligibility period

  • Have performed live at least five (5) times during the eligibility period

  • 51% based on jury vote

Horizon Group or Duo of the Year


This award is presented to a group or duo, defined as an act comprised of two (2) or more who perform together as a collective, in the Alberta country music industry displaying the greatest achievements within the current eligibility period. Voters should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to success at radio, streaming numbers, sales of pre-recorded music, live concert shows and vocal performances.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

At least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Group or Duo must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have released a single within the current eligibility period

  • Have a music catalogue that has obtained a minimum of 10,000 streams on a single premium streaming service within the eligibility period

  • Have performed live at least five (5) times during the eligibility period

  • Have not been nominated for or won a JUNO Award or any of the following CCMA awards: Single of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Fans’ Choice, Entertainer of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year

Selection Process

The Horizon Group or Duo of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Musical Acts or their teams must submit a package for consideration including screenshots demonstrating that the artist has met all eligibility criteria listed above. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot. Music Acts or their teams must also submit an Artist Reflection.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. A professional panel of jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the contenders. Country Music Alberta Award™

Horizon Youth Award


This award is presented to an individual artist or Group/Duo who is 18 less a day as of November 1 of the Upcoming Fiscal Year and active in the Alberta country music industry, displaying the greatest achievements within the current eligibility period. Voters should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to video presentation, live shows, social media presence and vocal performances.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The recipient must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; at least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Contender must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be 18 years of age less a day as of November 1, 2025

  • Have either a fully functional website OR a fully completed Country Music Alberta member profile as of October 31, 2025

  • Have completed a minimum of three (3) live, live-streamed, or combination thereof performance shows within the eligibility period.

Selection Process

The Horizon Youth award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Musical acts or their teams must submit a package for consideration including a performance video, a high quality photo, and evidence of above eligibility criteria. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The five (5) nominees receiving the most votes will proceed to the Third Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than five (5) nominees may proceed. 

STEP FOUR (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. One winner will be announced. In the event of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Country Music Alberta Award™

One (1) award is presented to the winner, courtesy of Country Music Alberta

Horizon Single of the Year


This award is presented to an act (solo, duo or group) with an Alberta country music track which was released as a single to Canadian country radio within the current eligibility period as defined below and/or amongst the top spinning singles within the current eligibility period. Voters should give consideration to the impact of the single on consumers and the Canadian country music industry.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The act must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; for groups or duos at least 50% of the members must be residents of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Single must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have achieved the 150th position or higher on the Mediabase charts OR have obtained a minimum of 10,000 combined streams on premium streaming services

  • Have not been a final nominee in the previous year for the same product

  • Have not been released by an act eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year

Selection Process

The Horizon Single of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Musical acts or their teams must submit a package for consideration including screenshots demonstrating that the single has met all eligibility criteria listed above. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. A professional panel of jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the contenders. Horizon Album of the Year


This award is presented to the act (solo, duo or group) for an Alberta country album, which was released for mass public consumption in its entirety, within the current eligibility period. Voters and jury members should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to, market impact, artistic performance, production, design, art layout and liner notes. This award is for an album as a whole unit.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The act must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; for groups or duos at least 50% of the members must be residents of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Album must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have at least six tracks or 20 minutes of music

  • Be packaged either as one album OR as a track-equivalent album: a series of singles or EPs that will be released within a 12-month period

  • Have not been a final nominee in the previous year for the same product

  • Have not been released by an act eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year.

Selection Process

The Horizon Album of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Artists or their teams must submit a package for consideration including screenshots demonstrating that the album has met all eligibility criteria listed above. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.


STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.


STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. Fans' Choice


This award is for any musical act that meets a streaming requirement proving their music is being consumed by the Fans and Public. The Public and Fans will have the opportunity to cast their vote for their favourite nominee via an online ballot to determine the winner.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The Artist/Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; at least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025

Note: The final round is a public voting category


To be eligible, the Artist must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have 25,000 catalogue streams within the eligibility period from a single premium streaming platform

  • Not be eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year

Selection Process

The Fans’ Choice award follows a three (3) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Musical acts or their teams must submit a package for consideration including screenshots demonstrating that the artist has met all eligibility criteria listed above. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Fan Voting Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the Fan Voting Ballot

STEP THREE (Fan Voting Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) nominees provided, anyone that has the voting link (with one vote per IP address) may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. The nominee receiving the most votes will be announced as the winner during Country Music Alberta Awards Weekend. In the case of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Country Music Alberta Award™

One (1) award is presented to the winner, courtesy of Country Music Alberta

Songwriter(s) of the Year


This award is presented to the songwriter(s) of an individual country music song released to radio or available for purchase within the current eligibility period. This award is based on an individual song and not on the songwriter(s)’ body of work. Voters should give consideration to all aspects of the given song, if applicable, including but not limited to lyrics, music, success at radio, record sales, success in digital media and impact of the song on consumers and the Alberta country music industry, with emphasis on the creative integrity of the song.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The Songwriter(s) must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; on collaborations at least 50% of the songwriters must be residents of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Song must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have been made available to the public within the eligibility period

  • In the case of a single released on an album, have been released to Canadian Country Radio within 18 months of the album release date

  • Have not been re-released 

  • Have not been a final nominee in the previous year


Note: An artist who has been nominated for or won a JUNO Award or any of the following CCMA awards: Single of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Fans’ Choice, Entertainer of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, may not be listed as the performing artist of any song submitted for consideration, however, they may be listed as a co-writer.

Selection Process

The Songwriter(s) of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – All eligible Country Music Alberta members may submit one (1) contender for consideration. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. A professional panel of jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the contenders. Video of the Year


This award is presented to the act (solo, duo or group) for an Alberta country music video, released for consumption within the current eligibility period. This award is for an original music video. Voters should give consideration to all aspects of the given video, including but not limited to creativity, production, visual appeal and impact on consumers and the Alberta country music industry.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The recipient must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; at least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Video must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have been released within the eligibility period 

  • Have been released by an artist not eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year

  • Not be classified as a lyric video

Selection Process

The Video of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – All eligible Country Music Alberta members may submit one (1) contender for consideration. All contenders deemed eligible will appear on the First Ballot.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The five (5) nominees receiving the most votes will proceed to the Third Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than five (5) nominees may proceed. 

STEP FOUR (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. One winner will be announced. In the event of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Country Music Alberta Award™

One (1) award is presented to the winner, courtesy of Country Music Alberta

Interactive Artist or Group of the Year


This award is presented to an act (solo, duo or group) in the Alberta country music industry who participates in meaningful digital interaction with fans within the current eligibility period. Voters and jury members should give consideration to all aspects of an act’s interaction with fans – including, but not limited to, quantity and quality – via social media platforms and website.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The recipient must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; at least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Contender must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have released a single/album/music video OR played a minimum of five (5) shows within the eligibility period

  • Not be eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year

Selection Process

The Interactive Artist or Group of the Year award follows a three (3) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Musical acts or their teams must submit a package for consideration, detailing number of social media followers, frequency of interaction, overall knowledge of social media, growth analytics, and quality of engagement. 

STEP TWO (Jury)  – A professional panel of industry jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the submissions to determine the final five (5) nominees, which will appear on the Third Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than five (5) nominees will appear on the Third Ballot.

STEP THREE (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. One winner will be announced. In the event of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Roots Artist of the Year


This award is presented to an act (solo, duo or group) who incorporates influences from a multitude of musical styles, including but not limited to Americana, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, Country-Blues, Folk, Gospel, Hillbilly, Honky Tonk, Country Punk/Rock, Roots, Rockabilly, Singer/Songwriter and Western Swing. Voters should give consideration to all aspects, including but not limited to success at radio, sales of pre-recorded music, live shows and vocal performances.

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The recipient must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; at least 50% of the Group/Duo must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta.

To be eligible, the Contender must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Fit within the Roots genre as determined by our Eligibility Jury

The Artist must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

  • Have had a minimum of five (5) tour dates in Canada, with two (2) being in Alberta during the eligibility period

The act must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta; for groups or duos at least 50% of the members must be residents of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025


To be eligible, the Single must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have achieved Top 50 position or higher at Canadian country radio as verified by Mediabase charts OR have obtained a minimum of 250,000 streams across all premium streaming services

  • Have been released by an act eligible for Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, or Group or Duo of the Year

  • Have not been a final nominee in the previous year for the same product

A minimum of one (1) shareholder of the Event and/or Presenting Series is required to be a member in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025

  • Have occurred over at least one (1) eight (8) hour day

  • Included at least three (3) performances by artists born or residing in Alberta

  • Have no more than 2000 capacity for an individual show or event

The Community Spirit award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Artists or their teams must submit a one page package for consideration, detailing their community spirit activities in the last year

STEP TWO (Jury) – From the list of eligible contenders, an independent jury of industry professionals, approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will shortlist the nominations to the five (5) nominees who will appear on the ballot.

STEP THREE (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees provided, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. This vote will carry 20 percent weight in the voting process

STEP FOUR (Selection) – From the list of five (5) nominees, Craig Senyk Initiatives selects the winner deemed most deserving, taking into account the results of the voting process and jury scores.

This award is presented to the visual creative and/or design team who have demonstrated an exceptional body of visual artwork that helps bring country music to life. This award recognizes a designer or creative team’s body of work within the current eligibility period. A creative team may include an artist, duo, or group, provided that it also includes additional members. It can include creative assets from one or multiple artists, projects, or marketing campaigns. Voters and jury members should consider all aspects of the given body of work, including, but not limited to the design concept(s), layout(s), typography, execution, visual impact, audience appeal and use of materials/media.

Selection Process

The Visual Creative of the Year award follows a three (3) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – Artists or their teams must submit a package for consideration. Submissions may include any combination of: album packaging, single art, merchandise, digital marketing assets, tour posters, websites, and other promotional materials. If submission is a supporting element on a final package, full credit for the final product must be listed. A maximum of eight (8) individual projects or campaigns can be included per submission.

STEP TWO (Jury) – A professional panel of industry jurors, whose members are approved by the Country Music Alberta Board of Directors, will judge the submissions to determine the final five (5) nominees, which will appear on the Third Ballot. In the event of a tie, more than five (5) nominees will appear on the Third Ballot.

STEP THREE (Third Ballot) – From the list of five (5) nominees, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) nominee they deem most deserving. One winner will be announced. In the event of a tie, more than one (1) winner will be announced.

Drummer of the Year


The Drummer of the Year Award recognizes individual instrumentalists known primarily for their performances on record or stage who have demonstrated exceptional skill and achievement in the Alberta Country Music Industry

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The musician must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025

Selection Process

The Specialty Instrument Player of the Year Award recognizes individual instrumentalists known primarily for their performances on record or stage who have demonstrated exceptional skill and achievement in the Alberta Country Music Industry.  Specialty instruments can include but is not limited to: banjo, dobro, mandolin, steel guitar, fiddle, keyboard/piano, upright bass, etc.

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

The musician must be a resident of Alberta OR born in the province of Alberta if no longer residing in Alberta

All contenders are required to be members in good standing of Country Music Alberta before November 1, 2025

Selection Process

The Specialty Instrument of the Year award follows a four (4) step selection process:

Radio Station of the Year (Large Market)


This award is presented to Alberta country music radio stations, who contribute to the development of Alberta country talent, within the current eligibility period. Eligible terrestrial country radio stations must be licensed by the CRTC. Voters should give consideration to all aspects of the radio station, including but not limited to community involvement, promotions, leadership, and recognition

Eligibility

The eligibility period is September 1, 2024-October 31, 2025

Any Alberta terrestrial country radio station (as defined by the CRTC) will be automatically eligible for consideration

A Large Market station is defined by a city/town population of 50,000 or more as of October 31, 2025

Selection Process

The Radio Station of the Year (Large Market) award follows a four (4) step selection process:


STEP ONE (Submissions) – All eligible Alberta terrestrial country radio stations holding a CRTC license are automatically entered for First Ballot consideration.

STEP TWO (First Ballot) – From the list of eligible contenders, each Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The ten (10) contenders receiving the most votes will appear on the Second Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than ten contenders will appear on the second ballot.

STEP THREE (Second Ballot) – From the list of ten (10) contenders, each eligible Country Music Alberta Member may vote for the one (1) contender they deem most deserving. The five (5) nominees receiving the most votes will proceed to the Third Ballot. In the case of a tie, more than five (5) nominees may proceed.
